BREAKING THE MOLD

AFRIYIE POKU CREATES HIS OWN PATH

When it comes to upbringing, most of us are brought into this world with particular guidelines and expectations given to us by our parents.  Never really questioning why, we remain silent and following suit, just to keep our parents pleased.

Moving to the states in 2000, Afriyie Poku's life was practically laid out for him. He was enrolled in college, and on his way to becoming an electrical engineer.  No doubt, a great career, but Afriyie's heart was not happy. Influenced by well known Saville Row designer, Oswald Boateng, Afriyie realized that fashion design was his true calling.  You guessed it, his parents were not pleased, but he had to do what was right for him.

Pleased with his decision to move forward, Mr. Poku hasn't wasted any time showing the world his talents.  In fact, he just recently participated in the Charleston Fashion Week '13 Designer Competition.  Known as a stylish man himself, you can see certain glimpses of Poku's personal style in the 15 look exhibit (images below).  The designs cater a diverse group of men.  While some are geared towards the modern man who appreciates classic appeal, others have hints of edgy, and military aesthetics.
Planning to officially debut his label, Oberima Afriyie,  in March of 2014, Afriyie has already generated quite the buzz.  Being interviewed by Don Lemon for CNN, and already receiving awards and accolades is a great start I'd say.
