MUSCLE MILK
THE BODY BOYS OF FASHION FORWARD MEN
I have always believed that the purchase of any article of clothing wasn't complete until you finished it off by visiting your tailor. After all, not everyone is fit model size. Not even the gentleman pictured above. But what helps them more than the average Joe is the sculpting of their physiques. Going against the grain of the traditional aesthetic of this site, this piece isn't about clothing, but about fitness. See, i am branching out to keep you guys intrigued. And lets be honest, some seasons you want to be able to strip down and actually show why your clothes fit so well. Especially now that summer is here. With that being said, I decided to team up with a few of Fashion Forward's leading men, and ask them about their prized assets, and what they do to keep them in shape.
Leading the troupe is my dear dear friend, and muse Chris Rich. And though he wasn't available for comment (due to his current background singing with Patti LaBelle) I know what he does. It's quite obvious that Chris works out, but every time I have done a shoot with him, he is always drinking tons of water and talking about the various vitamins and supplements he takes. Vitamins are essential because it boosts your body with the nutrients that you may be lacking, especially if you are to busy to eat a balanced meal. Deciding to give up weight lifting for a minute, Chris shares with me that he now does cardio to stay toned.
(CHRISTOPHER GLASS)
Looking at the image of Christopher, one would assume that he would say that his best asset was his flawless skin, but being that this is a fitness piece, think again...Mr. Glass actually takes pride in his chest. A super set routine on a declined bench, doing several dips and pec-dec flys is what he does to keep his thick frame nicely proportioned.
(DERRICK CHISOLM)
New face to the site is Derrick Chisolm. Now I don't personal know Derrick, but we do however travel in the same circles to an extent. And what I can say about him is that I have always admired his "body of work." Due to a knee that occurred while playing rugby, Mr. Chisolm takes pride in showing off his chest, arms and shoulders. But to avoid being "top heavy," Derrick stays active by playing volleyball to keep his lower region in shape.
(ERWAN MARWAN)
I don't even know where to start with this next gentleman. When asking Erwan about his prized asset, I never knew if I would get a complete answer , due to him responding with jokes. Although funny, he did however make a great deal of sense after calming himself down.
Having jobs varying from dancer to stylist to model, Erwan pays attention to all. His main focal point however is his abs. And not that I asked for this extra comment, Erwan volunteers that he loves seeing guys with nice asses. His words people, not mine...
Newcomer to the business, Camell Page has generated a great deal of criticism from people who he once thought were his friends. "If you want to be a model, why are you being photographed practically naked most of the time," they would ask. "What you are doing is borderline pornography," they would say. Will my response to that is, "if you have a body like his, why not show of the creation I work so hard to build???
The problem with closed minded people is that they don't realize the many avenues a personal can take in the modeling industry, and actually be successful. Victoria Secret models get paid thousands of dollars to be seen in what? LINGERIE!!! Mark Wahlberg became a household name in the beginning of his career doing what? WEARING UNDERWEAR!!! Now look at him...
But for those of you who don't obsess with the negative, and have decided to applaud this mans hard work, and wonder how he pushed himself to achieve these Adonis like results, not to worry. I am here to tell you.
Mr. Page is proud, very proud of his abdominal muscles.
Long before this image was taken by Kevin D. Hoover the model realized that in order for him to a achieve this washboard stomach, and small waist, he would have to devote time to doing several reps of crunches.
(Damon Rhodes)
Another new face to Fashion Forward Men is Damon Rhodes. Although I know very little about him, I do recognize that he too has taken certain steps in defining his body. Reaching out to him on facebook, I decided to ask him the same question I asked the others. With a prompt response, Rhodes told me that he pays great attention to his chest and arms. Favoring the Fly Machine, the model explains that he prefers to use heavier weights and smaller amounts of reps to build mass and stay toned.
(Macho)
Not taking away from any of the gentleman previously mentioned by any means, but in my opinion, Macho's body is a serious force to be reckoned with. Perhaps its because he is a fitness trainer, or maybe its as simple as having good genes, I don't know... What I do know is that he has an exercise routine that confuses his muscles to the point that it has him looking amazing.
Macho shares with Fashion Forward Men, that as a model, he concentrates on having a sound core. This comes in handy because you never know what insane pose a photographer may ask of you. Exercises that focus on your core also allows you to have better balance and posture. No need to go to a gym. Macho does 3 to 4 different exercises in his living room. Leg raises are just one. Laying flat on his back, Macho explains that he stretches his legs straight out, and lifts them about six inches off the floor.
"This simple yet effective exercise is great for your obliques," he adds.
