D.C.(IT NO LONGER STANDS FOR WHAT YOU THINK IT DOES)
As Spring 2010 quickly approaches, I feel that it's not only my duty to enlighten you with bold mouth watering images, but it's also my job to inform you of new under the radar talent. Darrell Cortez just happens to be a man blessed with several various traits of creativity. All of which he does very well. He is a Photographer, Art Director, Friend, and yes you guessed it...Designer. I had the opportunity of meeting and developing a friendship with Cortez a few years ago, and although we “clicked,” I had no idea how much talent the DC native possessed.
Tagging along with his older brother, DC was first introduced to the Fashion world. And what an experience it was... His brother treated him to articles of clothing purchased from Ralph Lauren, Lord and Taylor, and even Burberry. It's apparent that this exposure made in imprint in the junior high school students mind.
Darrell Cortez Spring Collection was inspired by Janet Jackson's video Got til it's Gone. “I wanted to capture the nuances of style and how the fashionistas of the Township of Capetown mixed prints and patterns with the freedom of incorporating brilliant colors.” The collection adds a certain level of freshness needed to round out the trends we have seen for the upcoming season. Being that a great many designers chose to go dark or goth inspired, DC of course steered in the opposite direction. Composed of butterfly printed speedos and board shorts, bleached denim shorts, and rose printed pants it goes without saying that this collection is meant to target a particular man. “My target market is the fashion forward male ranging in age from their early 20's to their 40's. My customer is not afraid of color or self expression,” he concludes.
